LifeLabs Privacy Breach Class Action

The class action arising from the data breach against LifeLabs was settled and the Ontario Superior Court approved the settlement distribution process and appointed KPMG as the Administrator.

The claims period has closed, and all payments have now been sent out by the Administrator, either by cheque or e-Transfer.

Given the large number of valid claims received (901,544), those class members received an e-Transfer of $7.86 or a cheque of $5.86 (after deduction of $2.00 as a cheque processing fee) in accordance with the Court-approved terms of distribution.

Note that as the distribution process has been completed, no further claims, payments or replacement payments may be made.

Below are the court documents that are available for your reference.

What was the approved Settlement?

The approved Settlement ordered LifeLabs to pay a total amount of $9.8M, and all class members who made valid claims have been issued an e-Transfer of $7.86 or a cheque of $5.86 (which includes the deduction of a $2.00 cheque processing fee). The amounts have been calculated in accordance with the Court-approved terms of distribution.

In exchange for LifeLabs paying the Settlement Funds, LifeLabs has been released by the Class from all forms of potential claims against LifeLabs arising from the data breach.
